In a visit to her grandmother’s house, Lil’ Ruby from Brooklyn shows her killer intuition and defeats the mighty Mr Howll in the most Gen Z way possible: by using her phone and her followers.
The animated short, developed by Platige Image and The Martin Agency as part of the Now Upon a Time series – a storytelling project that reimagines classic tales with modern, empowering messaging – took home the First Prize for the Best Short Animated Film at Chicago International Children’s Film Festival.
Already in the early stages of the project, Platige quickly realized the incredible potential of their animation – blending 2D and 3D animation to elevate the end result both technologically and artistically. The richness of detail and depth of the animation enabled a more faithful representation of the lead character’s expressive personality, resulting in a stylized production with a highly engaging and distinct visual style.
Marek Gajowski, CG Supervisor at Platige Image, reflects that “from the outset, the project was a major challenge for us. When work began, there were no available tools that could expedite or make the process easier – everything was developed on the fly, in response to arising issues”.
